How to build a Network Map

Creating a topology map for your local network

Total Network Inventory is a versatile and affordable tool for taking inventory of corporate network assets, administering the network and its individual components. The network will be scanned automatically, and you will easily build a network map or make edits to an existing diagram thanks to the built-in editor.

TNI is a multifaceted piece of software that allows you to scan various computers and network equipment, ping remote devices, build reports, track hardware and software changes on your workstations and servers, and much more.

The following editions and features are available:

  • Total Network Inventory Standard. Network scanning, building and viewing printable, tabular and on-screen reports, inventory and management of software installed on network computers, tracking changes in configuration, etc.
  • Total Network Inventory Professional. This edition expands the software management module with license management features, such as creating licenses, assigning license keys to software, complex calculation of licensing status on the fly, as well as a space where you can create a network map of your enterprise.

How to build a network map using our software

To do this, you simply need to download the program and then scan the network. All the discovered computers and network equipment will be automatically added to the network tree. Then drag the assets onto the map and arrange them as you prefer for quick access and network visualization.

TNI automatically scans networks, allowing for the creation of an accurate local network diagram based on the obtained data. Afterwards, you can add devices and objects that cannot be scanned due to the lack of a network interface.

Moreover, you have the ability to keep an eye on the online status of assets and the availability of resources right on the network map. With Total Network Inventory, you will only need a glance at the map to understand how your network is doing right now!

Advantages of working with TNI

  • Flexible and at the same time simple and comprehensible visualization of the network hierarchy.
  • Powerful tools for interactive visualization: load any images onto the map (for example, building layout or floor plan), use tools for graphic design, including links of various forms and styles.
  • Control devices directly from the map: ping them, scan them, run actions.
  • Unlimited size of the network diagram: implement topology of any size and complexity!
  • Support for unlimited number of projects: one map is too limiting if your network is very large. Create as many segments as you like and switch between them.
