TNI 6.5: Scalable Network Map and Live Collaboration

Hi everyone!

Today we’re rolling out another most requested feature to Total Network Inventory’s Network map mode. Version 6.5 introduces a new scalable map viewing mode and true multi-user editing and collaboration —and we didn’t stop there. Let’s take a closer look.

Scalable Network Map View

Finally, you can step back and see your entire network at a glance — no matter how sprawling it gets.

  • Four dynamic zoom stages: scale the canvas to fit any map — small or sprawling.
  • One-click navigation: click anywhere in the overview mode or drop a device node and TNI returns you to normal scale at that spot.
  • Smooth pan-and-zoom: move around the overview, then zoom to normal scale for actions and tweaks.

Architects and admins with large topologies can now orient themselves instantly, locate problem spots faster, and present clean overviews during audits or meetings.

Live Map Collaboration

Moving maps into the storage database unlocks true multi-user editing:

  1. Changes appear instantly for every connected user — add a device, adjust a link, or drop a note and your colleagues see it right away.
  2. No version conflicts: each edit is written straight to the DB, so there’s always one authoritative map. So, no more “who saved last?” worries.
  3. Continuous autosave: your work is saved in the background continuously, so you never have to hit that Save again.

Whether your team is on the same LAN or connected over VPN, you can now treat the Network map like a shared whiteboard that always stays in sync.

More database milestones

  • Application events now also stored in the database for faster queries and event notifications.
  • Multi-user database storage mode is officially out of beta. Thanks to months of feedback, it’s stable, snappy, and a solid foundation for upcoming features.
  • Next up: multi-user enhancements for SAM and Sensors are already in development.

Prefer single-user file storage mode? No worries — it’s still fully supported and will remain as an option as we move forward.

The full list of changes in this version of TNI is available on the corresponding page.

That’s it for now. Update to TNI 6.5, explore the scalable map view, simultaneous editing and instant sync, and tell us what you think — your feedback keeps shaping the roadmap.

By the way, based on these changes we are already preparing further improvements – including support for a resident agent for Unix, similar to what you have already seen in Windows.

Stay tuned, and happy mapping!
