Today we’re rolling out a long-awaited addition to Total Network Inventory: resident agent modes for macOS, Linux and FreeBSD. Until now, the resident agent approach was available primarily for Windows fleets, but starting with this release, you can bring the same “install once, scan on schedule” workflow to your Unix estate as well.
Resident agents perform scans locally on each node according to the set schedule. That brings a few practical wins:

We’ve just rolled out a major internal upgrade for scanning Linux, FreeBSD, and ESXi systems via SSH. While SSH-based scanning has been part of Total Network Inventory for a long time, the old agent was showing its age – becoming less reliable and harder to maintain as new Unix distributions kept emerging.
With this update, we’re introducing a completely rewritten SSH scanning agent. The new version is designed to be more stable, predictable, and much easier to extend. That means better support right now – and quicker support for more Unix-like systems in the future.
