I am not sure if I am over thinking this... but I was wondering if the actions I have set for the monitors will work even if the program is not actively running. I restart my computer at the end of everyday, and leave it at the login screen. I am worried that if I don't have Total Network Monitor actively running, then I won't be notified if one of my switches or routers goes down. Am I crazy, or should I keep this program running at all times? Thanks in advance for any help! :)

No, of course nothing will work if you don't have the program running. You should keep it running in GUI, or at least try to run it as a service (here's how). Take note that you cannot run both service and GUI at the same time so you should stop the service when you need to run the GUI to edit the project file. Same thing, close the program before running the service again.
